Diocese of London

Recently, we celebrated the priesthood with the funeral of Fr. Vince Gleeson. It was good to see so many Knights come out to pray for him and to give thanks to God for the 56 years of faithful ministry that he provided our diocese. Fr. Vince spent several years at our Diocesan Mission in northern Peru, where he began a credit union to help poor farmers and so that children may have school supplies each September. At priest’s funerals, before the final prayer, all priests sing the Salve Regina (Hail Holy Queen) as a send off for our brother. As we honoured Our Lady during the month of May, it was quite comforting to know that one of her sons was welcomed home to the house of the Father.

With my prayers,

Fr. Patrick Bénéteau

Director of Vocations and Seminarians

Thanks to John Price, Harry Visser, Franz Ebner, Lorne Twamley, Joe Lorentz, Tom Gould, Jim Gaylor, Fred Dubrick, Ken Gaffney, Gerry Mezenberg, John Walsh, and Shawn Raiman.

State Charity

Brothers your efforts have been outstanding this year with 250 books of Charity Lottery tickets sold. 80 books were sold at the Mall and 170 by members. This is an overall increase of 70 from last year. In a class by himself (of course) is Harry Visser with 25 books sold. (plus he did three shifts at the Mall). Other notables in the ‘second tier’ of sellers are Edgar Chaput (5), Adam Gulikers (4) , Andy Munro (4), Jack Palleschi (4), and Bernie Van Herk (4).

Faithful Navigator’s Message

Brothers,

As I put together my last bulletin as your Faithful Navigator I find that I have so much to say, but not enough words to say it all. Jean and I would like to thank all of you for your support during the last two years as we had the honour of performing our duties. I know I could not have completed this task without Jean’s help and without the help of my Brother Knights. I’m sure Jean feels the same gratitude towards many of ladies.

I look forward to the next two years as Jack and Mary Lou take over the helm. I know that all of us will give them the same encouragement and support that you’ve given Jean and I.

Vivat,

SK Jeff and Jean Smith

Message from your Chaplain

Dear Brother Knights,

By the time you receive this bulletin, we will be approaching the great feast of Pentecost.  This will end the season of Easter in the Church.  On Pentecost, we will celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation in our cluster at 2:00 p.m.  on May 15.  I want to thank you for the honour guard that you will supply at this celebration.

I also want to thank you for all that you did for Deacon Mark Stagg and his family at the time of his death and funeral.  I know that arranging your involvement at the visitation took a lot of time on your part.  I also want to thank you for the honour guard that you provided at his funeral mass.  Both added dignity to the occasion.

Thank you also for supporting the Pro-Life Movement with Rose Sunday on Mother’s Day.  This is a demonstrative way of showing that we are against abortion.  Keep up the good work.

As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, I hope that you are able to take advantage of this and get some rest.

Thank you again

Your Chaplain

Fr. Dick Bester
