New Members

Welcome to our newest member, Brother William Van Straaten. That surname should ring a bell for members as Will now joins brothers Mike and Steve in the Order. Will farms near Sebringville with his Dad. Brother Jim Gaylor is thinking up a plan for a Van Straaten take-over of the Perth West region for State Charity ticket sales.

Also, we welcome Brother John Bettridge who has been reinstated.

State Charity Draw

Brother Jim Gaylor reports that we have received a cheque from State from our ticket sales for $1,133.75 that represents 12.5% of our total sales. This money must be used for donations to charities. We also received $453.50 that can be used for Council expenses. Hopefully we will have tickets for sale before Christmas. With our dropping of the monthly Share the Wealth draw, it is hoped that members will buy or sell more of the Charity draw tickets.

Faithful Navigator’s Message

Brothers,

It was good to see such a large crowd at our September dinner meeting. I hope that we can see even more people out for our October dinner on the 26th.

This month brings us our annual Thanksgiving Day holiday. I hope that everyone has a chance to see their family and friends and to give thanks for all of the blessings we receive. We’re very lucky to live in a land of such abundance. Take a moment this month to remember those less fortunate. Know that you belong to an organization that dedicates itself to helping those in need, all year long. Be proud of the work you do with the Knights.

Vivat,

SK Jeff Smith

Message from your Chaplain

Dear Brother Knights,

With teachers and students returning to school and the celebration of Labour Day, parish life resumes and programs and organizations begin again.

This is also the case with the Knights of Columbus.

One of the charisms of the Knights that has impressed me, particularly with this Council, is the brotherhood or fraternity that you show. This was demonstrated recently on two occasions for which I am grateful. The first incident involved the break in at St. Anthony’s Church. The Knights rallied with the committee that takes care of the Church, to have the Church ready for the scheduled annual mass. You did such a great job. The second incident involves the prayer service for George Heisz on the day before his funeral. You came out in such great numbers to show your support for a fellow Knight. I was really impressed. Thank you again. I also want to thank you for the reception that you provided after the mass at St. Anthony’s. I know that it was much appreciated.

With this organization beginning again, it is a good time to approach men who may not be Knights and ask them to join our organization. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Our actions usually speak louder than words, and in recent events, I’m sure you have attracted some men to the Knights of Columbus because of your witness to the faith and to the Order. They may not know how to go about joining

I want to thank you for all that you do for our Church and community. See you at the next meeting.

Grand Knight’s Message

Dear Brother Knights:

As everyone knows the 1st Principle of our order is Charity. Charity is not only monetary although this is what I am addressing in this month’s bulletin.

Recently St. Vincent De Paul has increased what they are providing to those requiring assistance.

In addition to Food, on a rotating as needed bases, dish detergent, toiletries, socks and mitts, and paper products have been added. Of course this requires additional revenue. Our council has always supported them.

For this reason at our August Council Meeting we approved donating the profits from our Boston Pizza Fundraiser on October 19, 2015 to St. Vincent De Paul.

Boston Pizza has provided us with 120 tickets. Tickets are $ 20 each with our council receiving ½ of the ticket value.

Let’s make this a special “Knight” by selling out. Bring family & friends.

Several brothers have tickets including Mike Lobsinger, Jim Gaylor and myself.

We are now on Facebook thanks to Br. Mike Mooney (reference below). Events such as The Boston Pizza will be posted there along with other council information.
