St. Anthony Mass

Two weeks prior to the scheduled annual mass at the St. Anthony mission church, vandals smashed the door, entered and broke windows and damaged the altar. Thanks to many brother Knights and others who worked on repair and clean up, the church was ready and very presentable for mass on September 13, celebrated by pastor Father Bester. Thank you also to the brother Knights who served refreshments afterwards.

Charities Lottery

Operating for over 40 years, the Ontario Knights of Columbus Charity Raffle or as it is now known the “Charities Lottery”, has been supporting the Arthritis Society, helping to fund research to cure this horrible and debilitating condition. This past year’s lottery also supported Special Olympics Ontario to help promote a healthy and active lifestyle through sport to improve the wellbeing of individuals with an intellectual disability.

Our support exemplifies our commitment to the dignity of every person and our dedication to assisting with our neighbour’s needs, whatever they may be. In a few months we will again be asking for your help to sell/buy Charity Lottery tickets. Brother Jim is already making plans to sell more tickets this year.

Message from your Chaplain

Dear Brother Knights,

As summer continues, I hope all of you are enjoying a slower pace, and that you have had holidays or will be getting some.

I want to thank you for all the help that you have given over the summer. You helped with the barbeque for the parish picnic and swim which was a real success. You provided monetary support to the Bible Camp and again barbequed at the closing at the end of July. Again, I thank you for organizing the reception that will take place on September 13 following our annual mass at 2:00p.m. at St. Anthony’s Church. I want you to know how much this is appreciated, and I thank you sincerely for all that you do in helping our cluster run so smoothly.

As the summer continues, and we begin to think of fall and all the activities beginning, this would be a good time to approach men who are not Knights and invite them to seriously consider joining the Knights for the brotherhood that this organization provides, and the spiritual reinforcement it also affords.

Continue to enjoy the summer.

Your Chaplain,

Father Bester

Grand Knight’s Message

Dear Brother Knights

I am sure everyone has noticed that the daylight in getting shorter. With this comes start of school and our fraternal year gets into full swing. I urge you to become involved in our council activities. If you can no longer help out with fundraising activities you can still be involved by attending council meetings or coming out to other events like our Thursday morning breakfasts. Those who do attend enjoy the comradery.

Our walk -a- thon that was held on June 13th was again successful. We will be presenting a cheque to St. Joseph’s Restoration fund in the amount of $ 10, 887.89. Brothers we are getting close to our $50,000 pledge, less than $ 5000.00 to go.

A decision has been made to discontinue our Share the Wealth monthly draw fundraiser. The main reason is profits have dwindled to the point that we may not sell sufficient tickets to cover the expense of the fundraiser. That being said it will be $2,500 which is not available to give out to our local charities. I urge you to come up with ideas to replace this revenue.

There are two events coming up in September.

On Thursday September 10th there will be a Corn Roast & Hot Dogs at our hall. This is a night of fellowship put on by the Shriners. Last year’s event was well attended.

Our annual St. Anthony’s Mass that the Knight’s provide refreshments following the mass, will be held sunshine or rain on Sunday September 13th. If you have not been to this mission church I urge you to attend.

Grand Knight
