Hey I'm Luke and thank you for checking out my portfolio. To provide you with some background of myself & who I am, I'm a graduate of the Video Game Design & Development program at triOS College in Hamilton, Ontario back in 2019. I’m looking for a career in the Video Game industry, you could say it’s a dream career.
I’ve created small game projects of my own from scratch through to completion. Where I was a level designer, 3d artist & programmer, where I scripted events with C#, C++, JavaScript & HTML5 for these projects during my time at triOS College & Spear Interactive, where I completed 4 months of professional industry experience during my internship with Spear Interactive. I worked with Canuck Play on their September 2019 released game Maximum Football 2019. Where I helped with creating stadiums & a 3D icon for dynasty mode on the main menu screen.
I also have experience in creating/developing games in a team approach environment. Skilled with scripting, 3D asset creation, environment and level design Technology savvy & has a strong desire & willingness to learn, grow & take feedback. Sports, Gaming, Art & Computers are my interests & I have an absolute love for them.
My main goal for working in the game industry is to be constantly learning and growing as a designer and developer. I love Level and Environmental Design, Encounter Design, 3D Modeling and 3D Asset creation. I'm looking into learning character animation and VFX to add to my skills.
I do enjoy QA Game Testing and finding all those bugs that exist and hide under the hood. Before I started at triOS College, I had already done a lot of research and what I needed to get familiar with, I wanted to be "Ahead of the Curve ''.
I find level design very interesting and it is now one of my favorite parts about game design. You're creating the worlds that the characters live in and interact with and I find that so fascinating, what helped me get more interested in Level Design was a lot of the Sandbox modes in many games, I love tools that allow terra-forming, I can make fields, lakes, caves, oceans and mountains, I can be lost for hours messing around with these tools and almost forget their is whole game out there.
One area of improvement I always look towards is getting better at more coding aspects of game design and adding a better technical understanding of it to my growing set of skills. I understand the basics that come with coding. but seeing how code works once, it does give me some general ideas of what to work towards and see what I can do with it & getting it working. Coding is for sure, one of those skills I'm happy to have and really want to improve on it even more, But being able to assist
and help in that area I feel would greatly benefit me in my aspiring future dream career.
If there is anything I could say were my strong traits, it would be a very creative mind, motivated to do the best I can, to learn & grow and the want to get better at what I can do, break through my ceiling and just keep getting better. Whether it is fantasy or sci-fi, I've probably thought about it and even have created concept stories in my head and/or have written down somewhere to hold on to those ideas and hope to flesh them out one day.
I'm ready to make a career for myself in this industry and hope to achieve and live some of my biggest dreams that I've thought about all my life.
This was in-class mini project I worked on in college, that I decided to redo this by
recoding and finishing it. I'm proud of myself for finishing this and continue to my
code learning into C++/C#/Python etc.
Current Bugs: Looking into the issues below.
#1: Lines 7 & 8 have interact/select/click issues in the middle of their squares.
Must click very top of line 7 and very bottom of line 8 to register.
#2: When the timer runs out and the game ends, it moves you to the high scores screen,
it doesn't ask you for a name to submit your highscore.
(The highscore screen is just local cache, no server.)
#3: Rare, but sometimes their will be no new moves, a notification pops up on the screen and the
game will not produce anymore gems. The game will freeze in place, when the timer runs
out and the page needs to be refreshed.
I did QA testing on Intergalactic Cat Rescue, I volunteered my
time during the Covid-19 Pandemic to help Cantankerous Games,
while also in return gaining the experience needed to start my
career and also getting my foot in the door for the Video Games
industry.
It has been a slow start, but so far I'm very greatful
to the team for bringing me on and treating me like apart of the
team even though i'm only a volunteer. My responsibilites for ICR
have been to test the game from every possible angle and make sure
that every function, trigger and event within the game works from
any possible outcome, Majority of my testing has been through Windows PC
and Android builds through both Mobile and Bluestacks platforms.
Many of my achievements this past year for ICR have revolved around
making sure our triggers for each type of event are working and not
breaking or slowing down with everything going on the screen. Some
examples are: Cat Capture, Alien Ship destruction, Item collection
and many others menu features like our Achievements, Highscores and
our Saloon which is our Item shop.
Each day I check my tickets and
response to remaining tickets, reprouduce and leave comments on any
suggestions, changes or fixes that could be made. Mark tickets that
have resolved and/or fixed as finished and also trying to keep my tasks
section clean and up to date. Making sure our dev team is up to date and
what needs to be prioritized.
During my internship with Spear Interactive, I worked along side
with Canuck Play who was the developer for their upcoming game
Maximum Football 2019 that is releasing during Fall 2019.
I was
tasked with 2 jobs for the duration of this Internship. To create
a 3D Icon for a Mode on the Main Menu Selection Screen and create
2 Stadiums that could be used in the game at a later date. We brainstormed
ideas and decided to go with a Coaches Office for the 3D Icon. The programs
I used during my Intership were Blender, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
These 2 tasks that I was assigned and I was given complete design freedom
on what and how I wanted to do with them. They had the confidence in me that
I would succeed at these two assignments as they had seen my previous work
and liked what I had done during my time at triOS College.
I had to brainstorm & problem solve, how I was gunna transition the visions
of not only the Coaches Office, but the Stadiums from in my mind to fully
constructed models inside of Blender.
FoodLand is a Tower Defense game that was made for Unity Project Month, the concept of the game is to beat all 9 Levels to take back the castle from the evil Baron Jeff of Fondue. You play as 2 twins who are looking to take back their kingdom & push back the Rat Armies of the Evil Baron. The levels currently showen here are Levels 5, 6, 7, 9 that I assisted in making and our Level Select Map Scene that I created & made for the project.
Clickers Office Warhouse is a level that was designed during & for our Group Unreal Project Month,
When you arrive at Clickers you notice that the power is off an you have to travel around the Warhouse
to find the Janitor's Room that has the generator inside of it.
After you find the Generator
you notice it still has anough gas for you to turn it on & find what you need & to get out.
Clickers Officer Warehouse is a big building with 2 floors & multiple hallways with Ammo,
Guns, Power Ups & Enemies all through out the building.
Here you have my Level Design for Alien Swarm through the Hammer World Editor,
The story of this Level is a old Army Base that has been taken over by the Zerg Swarm.
You job is to enter the facility through the Garage & extracted the important Data from
the lab inside the base.
This important data is what will help you in the War against the Zerg.
I really enjoyed Hammer alot more than I figured I would. It really showed me how much I loved
level design & what I could do with it. An made me really think what I could do in other World Editors.
Level Design is something I really do love to do & look forward to working with it more in the industry.
The Infinite Climber is take on the Infinite Runner, but this time instead of running down the X-Axis, this run your traveling up through the Y-Axis. This Game you have your character with his Rocket shoes & traversing through the multiple segments that stand in your way. Don't fall behind or hit the walls or else it is Game Over.
The Infinite Runner is a game where you travelling through a tunnel with 3 different biomes in it, but also lots of dangers along the way. mines, spikes, bombs & trapholes exists in this tunnel & touching one of them means Game Over.
Here we have multiple images of what I made during 3D Asset, first time doing
& I'm happy with it other than the front could be better & not as flat. The 1st
is the Treasure chest, I enjoyed making this one alot, I wish to continue & practice
making more small prop like things to get better at 3D modeling.
An the 2nd & last is
what I did for my final assignment, I made the Legendary Runeblade of the Lich King from
Warcraft 3 & World of Warcraft "Frostmourne".
I was very happy with how it turned out, wish
the texturing of the hilt could be better though, & while being locked to 1000 polygons, I
would like to remake this sword in the future without a Polygon lock & see what I end up at,
I really enjoyed 3D modelling alot & look to continue working on it & getting better at it for the future.
Maverick is a game where you're defending a base that is currently being evacuated. Your mission is to prevent an Droid fighters from passing you. This mission is consider a suicide mission & your giving the base long anough to get everyone out, before your overwhelmed.
