I wanted to make a wave-based game with alien horde, with 4 maps and each map has a different boss element Fire, Toxic, Lighting, Ice. I was able to get the ice boss done it’s not perfect but for the time I had I think it’s a great base and can be easily worked on and improved. I Made 2 maps and game them good names that if I had a level design team, they would be able to take what I have and make this game look like the reference I want. I also did all the animations blend spaces for the AI. I want to continue to expand my knowledge on Unreal Blueprints since that’s what I ran into my biggest roadblock was connecting the wrong pins and using the wrong nodes.
What have I learned? This game taught me the basics of AI which I will continue to expand my knowledge with to me Smart AI but not super accurate make a game very fun to play. and I want to take the boss from this and with more time make him into a base boss super blueprint that’s very easy to make child's of and have the boss all have different combos and elements. I was able to learn how to make animated widgets that I feel give the game more of that vertical slice I was going for I knew I only had two weeks but I wanted to cram as much as I could in two weeks and see what I can get in two weeks with only 3 days of planning ahead that came back to haunt me since I did not get everything I was hoping to get in the game.
What could I have done better? For one I could have planned more ahead I knew this was coming up, but I spent way too much time on my assignment 1 & 2 that my time for planning for my lead project suffered. Spent less time on the Widgets and more time on the AI. More balance testing, Better animations. I also should have had a playable build on day 1 of the project but I did not.
