EverDark
EverDark is a first person horror game created using Unreal Engine 4.17. The game was created in a group of
four. My group members were Mark Kawucha, Michael Howie,
and Angela Mackney.
EverDark helped me expand my knowledge of level design by working with different lighting techniques to create the perfect horror experience for the player.
During EverDark's production the group ran into some techical difficulties due to a laptop needing to be sent in for repairs.
Level designing for unreal the second time I used planes instead of cubes to create the walls floor and roof of the game. I also learned
that the player could not run through a place from the backside even though it was invisible. This allowed me to add a bridge to the ship
with grand windows without having to worry about the player falling out and dying to the kill box in unreal. EverDark was originally a
text based game made back in 2016, When I was given the task of doing a first person game my first thought went to rebuilding the game.
In the text based game the combat system was turn based and randomized. We changed the combat to real time allowing the player to even
run away if they want to. Working with lighting proved to be a challenge of finding that perfect balance of darkness and brightness.
To dark and the player wont be able to play the game, if the game was to bright then the game would lose all of its horror feel. Finding
this perfect medium took alot of time and trial runs.
