Server closet Buddha shrine
For the past 2 years, I have had a Buddha Shrine in the server closet in my office. I carefully researched proper Buddha Shrine requirements and styles on Google before I chose the above arrangement (Buddha must be elevated and surrounded by objects that represent tokens of life).
Why did I do this? Simple. To speed up our current Internet access and reduce the number of times that we need to reboot/reset classroom routers (when caches fill up, etc.). Since I encourage instructors and TAs to reset their own router as necessary to maintain Internet access, I have made some easy-to-follow instructions and placed them on the wall of the server closet:
To reset the Internet connection for your classroom, perform the following:
-
Locate the router for your room (each is labeled with a room number).
-
Bow slightly and recite the following Buddha Mantra:
tayata om bhaykandze bhaykandze maha bhaykandze bhaykandze radza samudgate soha
-
Unplug the power from the router and plug it in again.
If performed properly, you should have continuous Internet for the remainder of the day or longer.
In the past, we had to reset routers at least twice per day, but now we only reset them twice per week. As a result, I have recommended using Buddha Shrines at all of our campus locations (it is scheduled to coincide with our next major upgrade).
