Welcome to triosdevelopers.com

and easterndevelopers.ca

WHAT IS THIS SITE?

As a developer student at triOS or Eastern College, you receive an account and subdomain on triosdevelopers.com or easterndevelopers.ca, respectively.   Regardless of whether you are a member of the video game, Web, or application development industries, it is vital to showcase your work online!  Employers today want to see samples of your work to get a better understanding of what you can bring to their organization.  In many cases, your online portfolio is more important than your résumé!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The triosdevelopers.com/easterndevelopers.ca sites allow you to host the online portfolio you create in the associated course in your program.  For video game development students, this is the Video Game Digital Media (VGDMED) course.  For Enterprise, Web and Mobile development students, this is your Web Fundamentals (WF) course.  Certain courses later in your program will also require that you post your work to your online portfolio.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD ONLINE PORTFOLIO?

The only ingredient in a good online portfolio is that it look appealing to the viewer.  Remember that the main purpose of an online portfolio is to showcase your skills to potential employers - and a potential employer will remember a “cool” website!   For example, I created a simple example online portfolio website using HTML5/JQuery that looks like Windows 8 Metro to showcase a few of my mobile Windows Phone apps - check it out @ http://triosdevelopers.com/jason.eckert/killercodingninjamonkeys/

WHAT SITE DO I GIVE OUT TO OTHERS?

For anyone who simply wants to see samples of your work and some highlights of your abilities, it may be best to give them a link to your triosdevelopers.com/easterndevelopers.ca page.  However, these pages should not be your only online presence - it is merely a site to showcase your portfolio.  As a result, I highly recommend that you also sign up for a free landing page site (e.g. http://about.me) and list all of your online sites there (including your triosdevelopers.com/easterndevelopers.ca portfolio site, Twitter page, LinkedIn page, etc.).  You can then choose to give out your landing page to potential employers and others interested in learning more about your abilities and work.  You can check out my landing page @ http://about.me/jasoneckert to get an idea of what it could look like.
