Message from your Chaplain

By the time you receive this bulletin for July, we will be well into summer.  Many of you will be on vacation and enjoying well deserved holidays.  In some respects many of the groups and committees take a break from their activities

July 1 is celebrated as Canada’s birthday.  On that weekend, July 3, we will have our cluster swim at the Lion’s Pool from 4:00-5:00.  Following that there will be a barbeque and meal in the hall.  I want to thank the Knights for barbequing for this event.  At this event, we will be saying good bye to Father Seejo as he leaves for his new assignment in London at Holy Family Parish

Another event which will take place in the month of July is the annual Bible Camp.  Again I want to thank you for your financial support and the barbequing that you will provide following the closing mass on Friday, July 29.  Your support of parish events is very much appreciated.  Without your support and the support of other parish organizations, events like the Bible Camp would not be able to happen.  Thank you.

As we celebrate Canada Day weekend, let us remind ourselves that we are blessed to live in such a country as Canada.  We also need to remind ourselves that as Christian men, we act from Christian principles and attitudes in helping to shape the country in which we live.   Our life in this world is not our lasting home, and we should pray and work for justice and peace in Canada and throughout the world.

I want to thank you for all that you have done over the past year for our cluster and our wider community.  Enjoy the summer weather and your well deserved vacations.  May you be refreshed by the break.

Your Chaplain

Fr. Dick Bester

Grand Knight’s Message

Dear Brother Knights & Ladies:

We have had a busy month, cooking at Relay for Life, Our Steak BBQ & The Community Kitchen. I want to thank everyone who participated in making these events a success. Jim Gaylor has captured some of the events in this bulletin.

In July while there is no Council Meeting we still have committed to Barbequing at a couple of events. On Sunday July 3rd the annual Cluster Swim (4 til 5) & Picnic will be held at St. Joseph’s & the Knights get to show their BBQ skills. I urge everyone to come out. It will also be an opportunity to say farewell to Fr. Seejo John, his last day in our cluster.

We also will BBQ for the Bible Camp on Friday July 29th for their closing.

At the Regional Basketball Free Throw Gustin Soriano, from St Joseph’s School, won the 10 year old boys competition. All winners’ scores are forwarded to State. With his score of 23 out of 25 at the Regional combined with Council & District scores Gustin is the Provincial 10 Year Old Boys Winner. He now has a Provincial Trophy for a keepsake. Congratulations Gustin.

This is the last bulletin before summer break. I want to express my thanks to everyone who has made this year memorable for myself & Donna.

You’re Grand Knight

John J. Price

Diocese of London

Recently, we celebrated the priesthood with the funeral of Fr. Vince Gleeson. It was good to see so many Knights come out to pray for him and to give thanks to God for the 56 years of faithful ministry that he provided our diocese. Fr. Vince spent several years at our Diocesan Mission in northern Peru, where he began a credit union to help poor farmers and so that children may have school supplies each September. At priest’s funerals, before the final prayer, all priests sing the Salve Regina (Hail Holy Queen) as a send off for our brother. As we honoured Our Lady during the month of May, it was quite comforting to know that one of her sons was welcomed home to the house of the Father.

With my prayers,

Fr. Patrick Bénéteau

Relay for Life

‘Breakfast’ of ham and egg on a bun, at 10:00 pm, was served for 400 participants in the annual Relay for Life to support cancer research. The group below looks like they work better ‘in the dark’.

Thanks to John Price, Harry Visser, Franz Ebner, Lorne Twamley, Joe Lorentz, Tom Gould, Jim Gaylor, Fred Dubrick, Ken Gaffney, Gerry Mezenberg, John Walsh, and Shawn Raiman.

State Charity

Brothers your efforts have been outstanding this year with 250 books of Charity Lottery tickets sold. 80 books were sold at the Mall and 170 by members. This is an overall increase of 70 from last year. In a class by himself (of course) is Harry Visser with 25 books sold. (plus he did three shifts at the Mall). Other notables in the ‘second tier’ of sellers are Edgar Chaput (5), Adam Gulikers (4) , Andy Munro (4), Jack Palleschi (4), and Bernie Van Herk (4).
