Message from your Chaplain

Dear Brother Knights,

During the month of November in particular, we remember and pray for the deceased. November 1, is the Solemnity of All Saints. The saints are the principal witnesses to Christ and to the saving power of his death and resurrection. On November 2, we celebrate the commemoration of all the Faithful departed. This we call All Souls’ Day.

On November 1, at 7:00 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, we will be holding a bereavement service to remember and help support all those families who have lost loved ones over the years. I want to thank the Knights for their part in preparing for this celebration. I know that the Knights have lost members through this year and we offer our continued support.

On November 11, we celebrate Remembrance Day, and I know that many of us will be taking part in what the city has planned.

I want to thank the Knights for all that you do in our Church and in the community. We will see you at these different celebrations.

Chaplain

Grand Knight’s Message

Dear Brother Knights:

On November 1st we will be again holding our Memorial Service in conjunction with the CWL and the Bereavement Committee. This will take place at St. Joseph’s Church at 7 PM with refreshments following the service. Mark your calendar, if you cannot be present offer a prayer for those Brothers who passed on this past year & their families left to mourn. (Larry Lemenchick, Peter Klomp & George Heisz)

Our Thursday Morning Breakfasts are again in full swing. We need additional brothers to come out. Talk with your morning coffee group & suggest that you meet at our breakfast once or twice a month at 8:30 AM

Again this year we will be holding our Christmas Ham Sales Fundraiser. More to follow in the next bulletin. We are trying to hold the costs.

Keeping those who missed our council meeting informed, we received our share cheque from the Ontario State Raffle. Since our council was in the top sales grouping, Br. Jim Gaylor was part of a conference call re the 2016 raffle discussions. To date, no word on when we will be receiving our 2016 tickets to sell.

We also welcomed two brothers, Will Van Stratten who took his 1st degree and John Bettridge who has been reinstated.

Sick and Shut-ins

Our prayers are requested for the following Knights who are either sick or shut in:

Brothers Gary Birmingham, Clarence White, Father Richard Tremblay, Dan Eybergen, Harry Thomas, Eugene Hagen, Ernie Walsh, Al Grant, Marco Eusebi, Adrian Theijsmeijer, Louis Feryn, and Dave Murtha

Also for Theresa Kelly, Debbie Mahood, Fran Culliton, Shirley Reeve, Anne Ryan-Murphy, Henrika Van Beek, Abigail Gregory-Mooney, and Betty Dubrick.

Recovery

Brothers, do you recall last June 7 when we heard of horrendous injuries incurred by Brother Jim Shular? Jim was clearing trees when one fell on him, breaking an ankle in several places, 6 vertebrae, 5 ribs, his shoulder, as well as causing two punctured and collapsed lungs and pulling an artery out of his left arm. Jim walked into the regular Council meeting on October 5 after walking to our hall from his home on Taylor St. This an amazing story and a testament to Jim’s will and prayer support from many friends

New Members

Welcome to our newest member, Brother William Van Straaten. That surname should ring a bell for members as Will now joins brothers Mike and Steve in the Order. Will farms near Sebringville with his Dad. Brother Jim Gaylor is thinking up a plan for a Van Straaten take-over of the Perth West region for State Charity ticket sales.

Also, we welcome Brother John Bettridge who has been reinstated.

State Charity Draw

Brother Jim Gaylor reports that we have received a cheque from State from our ticket sales for $1,133.75 that represents 12.5% of our total sales. This money must be used for donations to charities. We also received $453.50 that can be used for Council expenses. Hopefully we will have tickets for sale before Christmas. With our dropping of the monthly Share the Wealth draw, it is hoped that members will buy or sell more of the Charity draw tickets.

Faithful Navigator’s Message

Brothers,

It was good to see such a large crowd at our September dinner meeting. I hope that we can see even more people out for our October dinner on the 26th.

This month brings us our annual Thanksgiving Day holiday. I hope that everyone has a chance to see their family and friends and to give thanks for all of the blessings we receive. We’re very lucky to live in a land of such abundance. Take a moment this month to remember those less fortunate. Know that you belong to an organization that dedicates itself to helping those in need, all year long. Be proud of the work you do with the Knights.

Vivat,

SK Jeff Smith
